Off The Shoulder Lace Mini

Wedding season is upon us! This past weekend I attended a friends wedding on Long Island and I opted for a fun, pastel lace dress. The off the shoulder details and pretty lace overlay really made this little number stand out. I got countless compliments, this dress really stands out in a sea of black and is the perfect option for a summer wedding, baby shower or day time event. I added a little sparkle to my ears with these gem and fabric drop earrings which have pearl and pastel pink stones. Nude heels and a nude clutch kept this look simple and all about the dress.

Babes & Brunch

One of my favorite things about blogging is being able to meet and connect with some amazing local bloggers. This was the second brunch myself and Karen of Ever B. Styled have hosted together. The location was once again one of our favorite spots, The Gander in New York City's Flatiron area (fun fact: one of my favorite areas of the city). I was so excited for this brunch because I was meeting some girls I've been following and chatting with for a while! It was one of those moments when we met, I just felt like I knew each of them already!

Karen and I decided for a kick off to summer theme, what better way to decorate then with cacti and fresh bright blooms. I picked up the cutest little cacti at my local Lowe's, painted mini white mason jars, which made for the prettiest table scape.

The Gander is the perfect spot to host our girly brunch! The decor is absolutely gorgeous and the food is out of this world good! We started the brunch off drinking rose which is flowing on tap (my kind of spot!.. how can I get one of these in my house?)

After several glasses of delicious rose, we indulged in what I have to say is some of the best brunch food in the city! I had one of the prettiest and tastiest salads followed by delicious chicken and waffles. I really don't think there's anything better than a boozy brunch with friends.. am I right?!

After brunch the girls and I explored the city, taking pictures at the ever so popular flatiron building and then made our way for more drinks!

This is such a great group of ladies and I'm so lucky to call them my friends - we've got several events coming up and I'm so excited to keep getting to know them more. If you're looking for some girls to follow, take a look at their pages. Karen - Ever B. Styled, Jen - Red White And Denim, Danielle - Pineapple and Prosecco, Lindsey - The Fashionably Broke Teacher, Megan - Pine Barren Beauty, Gillian - Just Like Gillian.

12 facts about me

For the past year, I have been sharing mostly style tips and outfit inspiration. I always wanted to let you all in so you can get to know the girl behind the pictures. I never knew how to go about it and a big part of me was really holding back. But, I think the time is right and I think this next year is going to really be about me letting you all in and seeing me in a different way.

I recently got nominated by two fellow blogger friends,  Mary of Miss Mary Powers and Angelle of Dashing Darlin, to share 12 facts about myself. So I think it's a perfect way to open up and let you all get to know a little bit about me.

1. I am Polish, both of my parents were born in Poland. I am first generation American and am fluent in Polish. Heres a fun fact, my first language was Polish and I actually taught myself to speak english by watching cartoons.

2.  I am a Jersey girl born and raised. After high school I moved to Los Angeles California for almost 4 years! I lived in NYC for a little bit and now we are living in New York. (hoping we end up back in New Jersey! )

3. My family calls me the "Pinterest Queen" - I'm obsessed with Pinterest, it's my go to for recipes, craft ideas, home inspiration.. really just about anything!.. I can get really crafty and want to try everything I see on there .. but you totally get that right!?

4. I love to cook!! I enjoy experimenting and trying new meals. My favorite thing to do after a long day is pour a glass of wine and cook some dinner - it's my escape/therapy!

5. I haver really bad scoliosis. When I was in High School, I saw a spine specialist who said my curvature was 2 degrees away from having to get a rod surgically put into my back. To put things into perspective, I am 5'5, doctors said if my spine was straightened out I would by about 5'10 !

6. I am a hypochondriac, this is not a fact that I like about myself, but maybe someone can relate? I've been a hypochondriac for as long as I can remember but as I've gotten old it's gotten worse. It's mostly medical issues that I freak out about. It could be the smallest thing but I'll think the absolute worse and can even cause myself to have anxiety attacks about it!!

7. Something you may not know.. Chris and I are not married.

8.  I love binge watching tv shows! Favorite thing to do at the end of the day.. Got any good recommendations?! send them my way!

9. I get really uncomfortable in front of the camera and a crowd ... which is a recent thing. But once I warm up, there's no stopping me.

10. Chris and I are huge foodies, we love going out to eat and trying new restaurants (that's like our thing) .

11. Growing up I always wanted to be a famous actress, I always filled that in, in school under "what do you want to be when you grow up?"

12.  I was very athletic growing up, a gymnast since the age of 3, a cheerleader all the way through high school. I ran varsity track, played field hockey and also swam . Now, I can't see to get my ass off the couch these days :(

Phew!! That was hard .... It took me two days to come up those 12 "interesting" facts about myself. .. I guess it's a good start. That was fun though and I hope that you all got to know me a little bit more. Comment below with a interesting fact about yourself, I'd love to know something!

ONE YEAR BLOGGING ANNIVERSARY

I can't believe today marks one year since I published my first post on sylviapilawa.com .  I always dabbled in the blogging world over the last few years but it wasn't until last year that I really committed myself to it. Everything in life happens for a reason! I know it sounds so cliche but If I didn't go through some of the events that I went through, I wouldn't of been where I am today.

Over the last year I have met and gained some wonderful followers. I know in the grand scheme of things I don't have that many followers but to me I am so thankful and grateful for every single one of you that has followed and supported me along this first year. If you are new to my blog, thank you for stopping by and I hope you will continue to follow along!

To be honest, a little over a year ago, Cameron had just turned one and I was feeling very low about myself and my identity. I have to admit, I always struggled with who I was and what I wanted to do with my life. After I graduating high school I attended college in Rhode Island to study fashion merchandising, after finishing two out of three semesters in Rhode Island I decided to apply to the Fashion school in Los Angeles, I got accepted packed my bags and moved away to California at the age of 19. I left my family and friends behind and headed for a fresh new start in LA. My fresh new start slowly came to an end after just one semester! I got caught up in the California lifestyle and decided fashion wasn't for me and that I wanted to pursue a career in acting.

If only I knew then what I know now, the next three years were not as easy as I thought they were going to be! Little ol' me thought I was going to quit school and become a famous actress.. boy way I wrong! Endless acting classes, auditions and the countless no after no. I now had no college degree and was waitressing to pay the bills. I wasn't fulfilled and I just knew deep down that I wasn't happy where I was at. After about four years and way too much time away from my family, I packed my bags and moved to New York City. Again, I got a job waitressing so I could pay my bills,  meet some people and figure out what my next step in life would be. That's when things really changed, It's where Chris and I met. Chris was a regular at the restaurant I worked, we then started dating. I was now back for about two years with no permanent career and still confused with what I wanted to do when I got pregnant with Cameron (I am basically giving you the quick version of the last few years of my life).

After becoming pregnant I stopped working because it just made the most sense for me to be home with Cameron. My life became Cameron, Don't get my wrong, I love being able to be at home with my baby boy!! I love that I get to raise him and teach him all that he knows. I love that I am along the way for all of his firsts. I knew that when he was born, I was meant to be a mommy . Everything that happened in my life happened for a reason, it all made sense, it lead me to to being his mommy. But as great as a feeling as it was there was a part of me that wasn't fulfilled. I felt empty like my Identity was only being Cameron's mom. I craved creativity and I wanted to make something of myself.

If you haven't noticed already from reading this, I am one of those people that tries everything. One day I want to be an actress, the next day I want to design jewelry, the next day I'm starting an online business. Don't get me wrong, I'm very lucky to be able to say I experienced so much in my life and got to do so many different things not just the same office job. (nothing wrong with that, it's just not me).

My love for fashion started at a young age, I was the girl in middle school that dared to be the first one to wear uggs, while everyone thought they were ugly. I always did things differently and I even loved shopping at an early age and always playing dress up in my moms fabulous wardrobe.  So last year when I felt low and in need of a creative outlet, blogging was that perfect outlet for me. I figured what better way to express myself than sharing my style through pictures and expressing myself online.

Those around me all questioned it (another one of Sylvia's great ideas) and to be honest there were many times I questioned myself throughout the year as well. What the hell was I getting myself into!? This year was a complete eye opener and one filled with lots of work. To one blogging may seem like just standing in front of a camera wearing cute clothes and looking cute, but it's so much more than that. It's a lot of damn work, everyday. (not going to get into that). But I am so happy with where I am after a year and all the work that I put in to it.  I feel so fulfilled and so happy to see my brand grewing each and every single day. I am very thankful to all of you that follow me, really, without you all I wouldn't be where I am at today.  I know I have a long way to go but this is a start and pretty damn good start to me. I can't wait to be able to share more with you in the next chapter ! XO.
